No one wants the process of going through airport security to take a long time. When we fly we are all in a hurry. Here are valuable tips to keep in mind that will help you get through airport security fast. Keep in mind that all of these are subject to change at any time.

1. Bring the proper identification

Be sure to bring the correct identification with you to the airport. Acceptable forms of identification have the following:

* US federal or state government issued photo ID (must have name date of birth, gender, expiration date and some tamper resistant feature)

* US and foreign government issued passports

* Native American Tribal Photo ID

* Indian and Northern Affairs Canada (INAC Card)

Note: A fishing license or library card is not considered an acceptable identification document for air travel.

Along with your Identification you will be required to carry with you your official boarding pass.

2. Pack Correctly

If you are not certain what is satisfactory leave it at home, the best rule of thumb is when packing your carry on luggage. Here are some general guidelines:

You can only carry liquids and gels in 3 ounces or smaller containers. They must all be put in a sealed 1 quart plastic bag and visually displayed as they pass through the screening equipment.

Pack your carry on neatly in layers. If you do the screeners can see everything better. It could slow things down and you may be asked to remove the contents for better viewing, if the contents are only stuffed in your bag indiscriminately.

3. Other Considerations

Any electronic equipment, like laptop or netbook computers need to placed in a separate tray to pass through the screening and be taken out of their case.

Do not bring wrapped gifts, you may be asked to open them and display the contents.

Remove coats, jackets and all metal objects from your pockets and place in trays for screening. That means even belts and jewelry.

Be prepared to take off your shoes and place these in a tray as well. So wear socks that will not embarrass you!

Do not try to take water bottles or anything you may be drinking through security. You will be asked to throw it away.

4. Communication with Security Personnel

If you are asked questions by the security people, be polite. They are there to help insure your safety. If you are rude or belligerent it will only cause you and everyone behind you in line problems. Most important do not talk or even joke about any thing that may be taken as a threat.

Following these simple suggestions will help you get through airport security as fast as possible.
